Before we begin the legal work you have entrusted to us, we kindly ask you to complete the attached identification form — known as KYC (Know Your Client). This is a mandatory step required by Portuguese Law no. 83/2017, of 18 August, which sets out the measures for the prevention of money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and applies to all lawyers enrolled with the Portuguese Bar Association.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
- Fill in the online form.
- Submit the online form, along with a copy of your ID and proof of address issued within the last three months.
- Our team validates the documentation within twenty-four to forty-eight business hours.
- Once validation is complete, we issue the power of attorney and the legal services agreement, and the matter is formally opened.
WHAT WE ASK OF THE CLIENT
Truthful, up-to-date and complete information. Any relevant change occurring during the engagement — change of address, telephone contact, marital status or nationality — must be communicated to the firm in writing within thirty days.
WHAT YOU MAY EXPECT FROM OUR FIRM
- Absolute confidentiality, under the professional secrecy that binds every lawyer enrolled with the Portuguese Bar Association.
- Full protection of personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and Portuguese Law no. 58/2019, of 8 August.
- Use of the information collected exclusively for the lawful purposes that justify its collection, without disclosure to third parties outside the cases provided for by law.
- Retention of documentation for the statutory period of seven years after the end of the professional relationship, followed by secure deletion.
